I'm trying out this LiveJournal blog, and I find inserting a picture pretty easy here. This is Betty Hicks whom I met at Books & Books in Coral Gables. I read the children's book she wrote called "Busted" and found it was well-written and quite accessible to boys. It not only went into detail about soccer, but also resisted sounding like it was written by a woman by placing a lot of sentimental feelings on the boy. I've read women trying to write from a boy's point of view sounding very much like women -- noticing things a boy would never have noticed, for example, like curtains. Sometimes I wonder how some stuff ever gets published, but not this author. She has a handle on human nature.
